TOWNSHIP OF MULLICA PUBLIC HEARING
NOTICE OF HEARING CONCERNING A REQUEST BY NEW JERSEY-AMERICAN WATER COMPANY TO GRANT FRANCHISE RIGHTS AND MUNICIPAL CONSENT TO FURNISH POTABLE WATER AND WASTEWATER CONVEYANCE IN A PORTION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF MULLICA.
Please take notice that New Jersey-American Water Company (NJAW) has filed a petition with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) requesting authorization to acquire the water and wastewater systems owned and operated by the Egg Harbor City Utility.
The Egg Harbor City Utility has, for some time, provided wastewater service to approximately five customers who reside in Mullica Township along Hamburg Avenue.
In order for NJAW to consummate the purchase of the Egg Harbor City Utility assets it is necessary for NJAW to obtain the consent of the Township to continue to provide such service using the existing public right-of-way and a grant of a municipal franchise to continue providing such service.
Although the Township Committee introduced, published, and enacted an ordinance granting such approval (Ordinance No. 14-2021 adopted on August 31, 2021), in order to comply with NJS 48-3-13, NJAW has requested a hearing to be held during the December 28, 2021 Township Committee Meeting to be held in the Township Hall, 4528 White Horse Pike, Elwood, NJ commencing at 7:00pm.
A copy of the NJAW request documents and Ordinance No. 14-2021 are available for inspection in the office of the Township Clerk during normal business hours.
Following the hearing, the Township Committee will consider a resolution ratifying the action taken by the Township Committee enacting Ordinance No. 14-2021.
